We engage local and national governments through policy reforms and recommendations, program and project development and advocacy positions in support of our vision of a toxics-free world.

We also work closely with local, national and international environmental NGOs, intergovernmental organizations and academic institutions using both local and international campaigning, capacity-sharing and bridge-building between activists in Asia and other parts of the world.

Although there has been some progress in chemicals management in the recent years—many countries have established legal structures and systems to properly manage chemicals in their various forms, some businesses have also developed policies and practices for manufacturing and using chemicals responsibly and a number of international treaties are in place for managing chemicals safely and soundly—there are still gaps, lapses and inconsistencies in government policies and corporate practices.

In our work to address these gaps we develop local and regional initiatives through research, investigation and policy recommendations and dialogue with different sectors.

At the international level we actively participate in processes around the Basel, Rotterdam and Minamata Conventions as well as the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM), a policy framework to foster the sound management of chemicals around the globe.
