In 2019, Zero Mercury Working Group tested 158 beauty creams from 12 sampling countries. Ninety-five of which exceeded the 1 ppm (parts per million) maximum allowable content for mercury.

Products such as Erna Whitening Cream, Formula AA Arche Cream, Golden Pearl Cream, and Goree Beauty Cream are still widely available for purchase in online marketplaces despite violating the maximum allowable content for mercury.

Mercury is a known toxic chemical listed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of their top chemicals of major health concern. Exposure to high levels of mercury or mercury compounds can cause harm on the nervous, digestive and immune systems, with some cases leading to death.
