BAN Toxics will be holding a webinar on “Dangerous Mercury-Laden Skin-Lightening Products Readily Available for Online Purchase” on November 9, 2021.

The webinar will discuss the prevalence of mercury-laden beauty creams in Philippine online marketplaces and the adverse effects of mercury to consumers from the products in question.

BAN Toxics is a non-government, non-profit, environmental organization established in 2006, that strongly supports the protection of the environment and advocates for an environmentally sustainable future through the promotion of sound chemicals and wastes management practices.

In 2019, skin-lightening products bought online from the Philippines were tested for their mercury content, as part of a project run by the Zero Mercury Working group (ZMWG), of which BAN Toxics is a member. At the end of 2020, the Minamata Convention on Mercury required each Party to ban the manufacture, import, or export of cosmetics containing over 1 ppm (µg/g) mercury, by taking appropriate measures.
